Off Brand Walmart Oreos For The Frugal Shopper
Off brand snacks are a big deal. Out of all products, people like saving money on snacks. And there is a reason why. The mark up on popular name brand snacks is huge. That is the reason these big food companies spend so much money advertising to children. It builds life long loyalty, and a lifetime of customers over paying for unhealthy snack foods. But no need to worry. You can start buying off brand Walmart Oreos and put some of this money back in your wallet.

Oreo Knock Off
My research puts the price of name brand Oreos in the range of $3.67 to $4.99. The lower range would be when they are purchased at a discount retailer like Walmart and higher range would be at a premium grocery store like QFC. But what about if I told you that Great Value Twist & Shout Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, also known as off brand Oreos, were only $1.60. Now that is some serious savings!
Your first thought may be that the package has to be smaller. Don’t worry I’ve checked this too. The standard Oreo package size is 19.1 ounces. This is considered the family size. They also offer a larger party size. But we will focus on the family size for the purpose of this review.
Well, how do the off brand cookies compare? The Great Value Twist & Shout Chocolate Sandwich Cookies come in at 15.5 ounces. So a little bit smaller, but not bad considering the price is about a third of the name brand Oreos.
Great Value Oreos
Okay, but more important is the taste. Because if the taste and experience is horrible who cares about the savings. After analyzing the price difference my expectations were not great. I mean how good could these really be at $1.60 a pack? I came away quite surprised.
The taste is solid. The manufacturer did a good job making these taste like the real thing. The chocolate wafer has that flavor kick to it that is only associated with Oreos. The one thing I will admit is the difference in texture. The cookie is a bit more dry and flaky. This is not necessarily a bad thing. But after growing up on Oreos, it is something that comes across.
Next up is the filling. I mean serious Oreo connoisseurs are all about the filling. Have you ever met one of those people that takes an Oreo, opens it up, eats the filling, and then sets the cookie aside.
In my opinion, the white stuff tastes identical. But there is one catch. The off brand cookies are harder to take apart. Due to the flaky nature of the wafer, the entire cookie crumbles when trying to take it apart. So if you are one of those strange people that gets Oreos just to lick the filling, you may be out of luck.
Chocolate Sandwich Cookies
I like my Chocolate Sandwich Cookies with milk. The things about milk is it neutralizes the nuance of the cookie’s taste. In reality, with a glass of milk the taste of the off brand Oreos is almost indistinguishable from the real thing.
Oreo Cookies Walmart
In conclusion, off brand Oreos from Walmart are worth the savings. Unless you are stuck on the texture and the ability to clearly take the cookie part to lick the filling. Otherwise, you are in the clear with the Walmart knock off version!
