Semantic Drift (Definition)
Semantic Drift describes the gradual degradation of meaning as information passes through compression, transformation, interpretation, and reuse. Representations remain coherent and recognizable, but their relationship to the original meaning weakens over time. Context, intent, or reference may be lost even while the output still appears accurate. Semantic Drift usually emerges through accumulated transformations rather than a single identifiable error.
